Pixley Falls is surrounded by steep, wooded hills with Lansing Kill meandering through the center. The state park features a .7-mile nature loop trail that cuts through several small seasonal mountain streams with cascades.
A hiking, cycling and cross-country ski trail follows along the Black River Canal on the western edge of the park. The Black River Canal Trail, part of the North Country National Scenic Trail, follows along the tow path of the Black River Canal, an engineering marvel built between 1837 and 1855. The trail begins at Boonville proceeding south for 10 miles to an area referred to as the Five Combines south of Pixley Falls State Park.
