The Shaeffer Campbell Covered Bridge now carries a pedestrian path over College Pond in St. Clairsville, Ohio, but it began its life in Fairfield County, where it once crossed Clear Creek south of Amanda. Built in 1891, the bridge used a multiple Kingpost truss design, a style common among the covered bridges of central Ohio.
After years of service, the bridge was damaged and donated to Belmont County in 1975, which no longer had any surviving covered bridges of its own. It was dismantled, moved, and restored before being placed in its present setting at Ohio University’s Belmont Campus. Today, it serves as both a scenic campus landmark and a reminder of Ohio’s covered bridge heritage.
