Letchworth State Park

Gorge Trail

The most popular trail at Letchworth State Park is the Gorge Trail (Trail 1). At seven miles in length, it travels parallel to the main park road and passes by many scenic overlooks and waterfalls.

The southern terminus of the Gorge Trail is located in a small parking area off the main park road near the Portageville Entrance by the railroad bridge. The trail descends under the railroad bridge, passing by De-ge-wa-nus Creek which contains the 15-foot Shadow Falls and 15-foot De-ge-wa-nus Falls. The trail levels out as it passes by Upper Falls and its numerous overlooks before ascending towards the Glen Iris Inn and an overlook of Middle Falls.

The Gorge Trail sticks to the rim of the Gorge for the remainder of the hike, passing by Inspiration Point, the Lower Falls area, Wold Creek and other overlooks of the Genesee River valley. The trail ends along the flats of the river.
