Rim Trail

The Rim Trail follows the edge of the Taughannock Creek gorge at Taughannock Falls State Park.

Taughannock Falls State Park

The Rim Trail begins on the north side of Taughannock Creek at NY 89 by Cayuga Lake. A series of steps leads to the top of the north Taughannock Creek gorge and proceeds south and west towards the Taughannock Falls overlook. Once atop the gorge, the trail levels out with only gradual changes in elevation.

The Taughannock Falls overlook features a newly constructed exhibit and comfort facility. A short walk down a few steps leads to a small platform for a wide panoramic view of Taughannock Falls.

The Rim Trail continues westward towards the western fringes of the park before connecting to the Black Diamond Trail. The Rim Trail turns left and crosses Taughannock Creek via the Black Diamond Trail, a rail-to-trail that was recently constructed atop an old Lehigh Valley Railroad alignment.

The Rim Trail continues eastward along the south Taughannock Creek gorge, gradually descending past several overlooks of the canyon. After descending numerous steps, the Rim Trail ends at the Gorge Trail parking area next to NY 89.
