Armstrong Covered Bridge

The Armstrong Covered Bridge, also known as the Clio Covered Bridge, stands today in Cambridge City Park in Cambridge, Ohio. Built in 1849 by Abraham Armstrong at his mill for $510, the multiple Kingpost truss bridge originally crossed Salt Creek near the small community of Clio.

The bridge’s long history gives it a place beyond local preservation. It survived Confederate General John Hunt Morgan’s raid through Ohio in 1863, one of the war’s northernmost episodes. More than a century later, in 1966, the bridge was moved to Cambridge City Park during the development of Salt Fork State Park, where it remains preserved as one of Guernsey County’s historic covered bridges.
