Cascade Mill Falls is a scenic 20-foot cascade adjacent to an abandoned factory between Penn Yan and Dresden, New York.
The eight-mile Keuka Lake Outlet is a natural waterway that drains Keuka Lake at Penn Yan into Seneca Lake at Dresden. Along its course, dotted with the ruins of old mills and factories, it drops 280 feet and offers several spectacular waterfalls.
The waterway is paralleled with an abandoned New York Central railroad that was converted into the Keuka Lake Outlet Trail, open to cyclists and pedestrians, which meanders between Penn Yan and Dresden, and at one point, enters one of the 27 locks that serviced the long-disused Crooked Lake Canal.
At Cascade Mills is the abandoned Baker Chemical Company’s carbon bisulfide plant.
