Stowe Pumpkins

Every year in October, behind the Mansfield Valley Poultry in Stowe, Vermont, is an autumn splendor: hundreds of bright orange pumpkins.

Of course, just buying a pumpkin pretty much obligates you to carve them, but why not go the extra route? Every late September at the nearby Stoweflake Mountain Resort is the annual Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival, where you and your family or team can build a trebuchet and launch your pumpkins into the air.

Along with the pumpkin chuckin’ competition, there is live music, a chili cook-off- a cornhole tournament, and children activities.

From Stowe, follow VT Route 100 north for 1 mile and turn left onto West Hill Road to the pumpkin smorgasbord. To get to the Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival, follow VT Route 108 north from Stowe for 1.7 miles. Turn right onto Cape Cod Road and the Stoweflake Mountain Resort is on the left.
